on Saturday 25th august, we had the official opening of our art gallery, and what a night it was!

our first guests promptly arrived at 7pm, and were greeted by megan. guests were invited to explore the exterior sculpture exhibits and artist studios. alternatively, they could head straight to the art gallery, where refreshments were provided. Alex and christine were available to speak to guests about their works and inspirations.

jantien powell and tiz from chapel cottage studio also joined us, and as well as renee kilburn, who has pieces in our exhibitions. other guests included students, past and present, and town councillors.

Everyone at court robert arts would like to thank the guests who joined us in celebrating the official opening. the support shown for our establishment was outstanding and encouraging- we can't wait to hold future events.

If you weren’t able to make it, the art gallery and sculpture exhibits are open to the public daily, 10am-4pm.

special deliveries

22/8/2018

The preparation for our official gallery opening is well under way, and this week we received two very special deliveries for it.

Renee Kilburn, based in Western-super-mare, delivered beautiful ceramic pieces. Truly unique pieces, renee's style is evident in everything she produces. from small bowls, to large bird baths, we have a wide variety of renee's work on display. her colourful pieces in the gallery also tie in painter alex's work to the sculpture pieces on display. we also have several pieces which are suitable for outdoor use. make sure you visit us to take a look!

our second delivery was from fiona cran, a local jeweller who produces intricate jewellery predominantly in silver. from silver rings, to oxidised and etched necklaces, we're huge fans of fiona's work. having only received her work 2 days ago, we've already sold a pair of earrings! Perfect gifts or a little treat to yourself, see all the jewellery on display in our art gallery now!

both renee's and fiona's work can be purchased, click here to be redirected to our selling page.

the art gallery official opening is on saturday 25th august, from 7-9pm.

rain, rain, go away...

10/8/2018

contrary to the nursery rhyme, we hope the rain doesn't go away just yet...

For the first time in what feels like months, we've woken up to rain here at court robert arts and we're pretty excited about it. if you've visited court robert arts recently, you'll know our garden is looking a little worse for wear, and extremely thirsty. although christine has tried her best to keep the plants hydrated, the heatwave was battling against us, it has proved near impossible. we probably won't be seeing any more flowers in the garden this year, but some flowers in the courtyard are still in bloom and looking glorious thanks to christine and her watering system.

we doubt we'll be having many visitors today, and we hope the rain will have subsided by tomorrow for our first and only saturday open day in august! we hope to be welcoming many of you to discuss art courses, our teaching spaces and to explore our sculpture exhibits!

Check out the photo of the cows in the field behind court robert arts, they seem to be enjoying the rain too.

the casting process

we currently have 32 of christine's sculptures on order (eeee!), so we thought we'd give you a little insight into how our iron and bronze resin sculptures are manufactured.

firstly christine, isobel or liam prepare the mould. this includes repairing any tears with a silicone mix. Next they rub on the iron or bronze resin, using toothbrushes. this is made using a iron or bronze powder mixed with resin to make a paste.

after the iron or bronze resin paste has completely coated the inside of the mould, it is placed into its outer fibreglass casing. The casing is held together using bolts and wing-nuts. once fixed together, the interior of the sculpture is poured into the mould in a liquid resin form. the liquid contains resin, and two different types of aggregate (sand).

Normally, after around three hours the sculpture is set and cool enough to remove from its casing. The sculpture is quality checked, and any visible casing split lines are filed and filled.

The bronze sculptures are then finished with a patina and left to dry. The iron resin sculptures are brushed, and dipped into an acid bath, that creates a rusted finish.
